Report to:
Shop Manager, Timber Frame Director
Operating and maintaining the Hundegger K2 CNC machine in a timber frame shop. This position involves programming, preparing, running, and maintaining the machine to process timber components with precision and efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating CNC machines, particularly in the context of timber frame or woodworking shops.
- Proven experience with a Hundegger CNC machine or similar high-end CNC machinery is highly preferred, training is available for the right candidate.
- Solid understanding of timber frame construction and the specific requirements for producing high-quality, precision timber components.
- Ability to program, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC machine settings to ensure efficient and accurate production.
- Familiarity with CNC software, as well as general woodworking or CNC programming software (e.g., CAD/CAM).
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring all cuts, joints, and components are fabricated to the highest standards of craftsmanship.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with other team members and project managers.
- Self-motivated with a commitment to quality craftsmanship and maintaining high standards of work.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and deadlines.
- Operate the machine to cut, shape, and process timber frame components according to shop drawings and specifications.
- Set up and calibrate the machine, ensuring proper tool selection, machine calibration, and configuration for each project.
- Load and position timber pieces on the machine bed, ensuring the correct alignment and safety for processing.
- Monitor machine performance during operation, adjusting as needed to maintain optimal efficiency, precision, and quality.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed while operating the machine, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Program the machine using appropriate software to input cutting and shaping patterns, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
- Review project plans and shop drawings to determine the most efficient and effective way to program the machine for each piece.
- Ensure that all cuts, joints, and notches meet exact specifications for timber frame construction, particularly in high-end custom designs.
- Perform regular tests and quality checks to ensure machine cuts are accurate and meet design requirements, making necessary adjustments to optimize performance.
- Conduct rigorous quality checks on processed timber components, inspecting defects, precision, and alignment with design specifications.
- Ensure all processed materials are finished to the highest standards, ensuring they are free of defects and properly prepared for assembly.
- Communicate with the production team, including project managers and carpenters, to report any issues related to machine operation, timber quality, or production efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations related to machinery, materials, and timber frame construction.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on the machine to ensure it operates smoothly and is in good working order.
- Identify and troubleshoot any mechanical or operational issues with the machine, addressing problems promptly to minimize downtime.
- Keep detailed records of machine usage, maintenance, and repairs to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with internal standards.
- Work closely with the shop manager, carpenters, and other team members to ensure seamless production and integration of machine-cut components into timber frame projects.
- Communicate with designers and project managers to ensure that the machine operation aligns with design changes, material specifications, and project deadlines.
- Participate in regular team meetings to review production schedules, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures when operating the machine, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
- Adhere to all company policies and regulatory requirements related to machine operation, timber frame production, and general workplace safety.
- Participate in regular safety training and ensure that all work meets OSHA or other relevant safety standards.
