Description

CVOEO's Voices Against Violence (VAV) Program works towards the elimination of domestic and sexual violence and stalking through direct service, education and systems change. In conjunction with the Shelter Team Lead, the Shelter Advocate is responsible for providing direct support and advocacy services to survivors in the shelter and community, coordinating services with other systems and community outreach.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in a Human Service field or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired.
  • A highly motivated and responsible individual with the ability to relate to a wide variety of people in a non-judgmental, positive and competent manner.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work sensitively with diverse populations and in high stress environments.
  • Must demonstrate good organizational and crisis intervention skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills required, bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Must be willing to work within the philosophy of the program and agency.
  • Will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Mission and Guiding Principles of Voices Against Violence, and survivor defined model; team-based approach.
  • Confidentiality for program guests and all survivors.
  • Provide and receive appropriate feedback, address and manage conflict and maintain professionalism.
  • Treat others with dignity and respect regardless of differences in background and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications, including databases, email and internet-based tools.
  • Clean driving record, valid driver’s license, and access to reliable transportation must be maintained and ability and willingness to travel within the CVOEO service area.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Ability to uphold safety standards.
