Youth Conservation Corps Crew Members; VT

Crew members (ages 14-18) are hired each year to work on Conservation Corps crews at the location closest to them. They are selected through a competitive application process and supervised by a trained leadership team. Successful candidates receive a bi-weekly wage plus hands-on education and employment experience. Members must be willing to meet the challenges of working outdoors by demonstrating maturity, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic.

A commitment to the environment and to their local communities is essential.

Crew members work on local crews based out of North Woods Stewardship Center and will work on projects in Vermont and New Hampshire. Projects vary by year and location, but generally include trail maintenance and construction, improving wildlife habitat, studying and protecting wildlife populations, removing invasive species, addressing water quality issues, and maintaining critical infrastructure.

• North Woods Day Crews, East Charleston, VT
• North Woods Back Country Youth Crew, East Charleston, VT

Duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Work alongside 4 other crew members and 2 Leaders while completing priority conservation projects
• Respond to and work with the leadership team in a respectful and productive manner
• Promote a safe work environment for fellow crew members and the public
• Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm to learn more about conservation and natural resource management

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess, at a minimum, the following:

• Interest in developing skills and experience in natural resource conservation and management
• Commitment to protecting and improving the quality of the environment for human and natural communities
• The ability to work responsibly and cooperatively as a member of a team
• Capable of performing strenuous physical labor under variety of outdoor conditions (ie. Summer heat, bugs, rain etc)
• Experience in conservation, carpentry, landscaping/gardening, or farm/woods work is a plus, but not required.
• Candidates must be at least 14 years old by June 18, 2026

Employment Period: North Woods Local Vermont YCC Crews:
June 18 through July 31, 2026 including two training days the week prior to the start date of June 22nd is required

Workweek: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm (includes a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break)

Compensation: $14.86 – $17.43 per hour, depending on crew and location.

Reports to: Dusty May, Conservation Corps Director;
Charles Hill, Northern Field Coordinator, and Grace Pribbernow, YCC support staff.
