As a Garden Maintenance Manager, you will combine your horticultural expertise and leadership skills to oversee the care of premium residential gardens.
This is a hands-on, field-based role focused entirely on delivering high-quality maintenance work
-with no sales responsibilities. You will directly lead a three-person gardening crew while simultaneously overseeing a second three-person crew directed by a Lead Gardener. - Team Leadership: Manage two gardening teams totaling six members. You will directly lead Crew 1 (yourself + two technicians) and oversee a Lead Gardener who runs Crew 2 (Lead + two technicians).
- Hands-On Execution: Work alongside your team to execute all aspects of garden maintenance, including weeding, mulching, fertilizing, planting, and pruning using best horticultural practices.
- Client Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for residential clients, building strong relationships through proactive updates and regular site visits.
- Seasonal & Plant Health Care: Adjust maintenance schedules for spring cleanouts, summer care, and fall cutbacks. Diagnose plant health issues and communicate solutions or refer to plant health care specialists.
- Daily Operations: Assign tasks, provide clear direction, and ensure strict adherence to safety procedures and company standards across both crews.
- Coordination & Logistics: Work with project managers and internal teams to integrate maintenance with other services. Manage materials, track labor usage, and minimize downtime on job sites.
- Team Development: Evaluate team performance and provide constructive feedback to support the skill development of your technicians and Lead Gardener.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of horticulture, plant care, and garden maintenance best practices.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing crews and delegating tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client and team interactions.
- Proficiency in safely operating garden equipment and vehicles.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and professional email.
- Excellent physical fitness and the ability to perform outdoor labor in various weather conditions.
- A reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and highly observant work ethic.
- Preferred:
Horticultural or gardening certifications.
- A positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic are essential.
- A love for all things landscaping and people is a major plus.
- Must be detail-oriented, observant, and diligent.
