Main Purpose of JobThe DJS Resident Advisor Trainee position is the entry level that provides supervision and guidance to the youth residing in a facility operated by the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. The incumbent observes, interacts, and assists the youth with everyday life skills and advises appropriate alternative behaviors. The position has a regular shift but may be required to work other shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, and may be subject to call‑in based on staffing needs.
Minimum Qualifications- High‑school graduation from an accredited institution or possession of a high‑school equivalency certificate.
- No prior experience required.
These educational requirements are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8‑209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications- U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Full background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing.
- Oral interview.
- Physical and psychological examinations.
- Substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations .
Contractual employees working at least 30 hours a week (or an average of 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and dependents. Contractual employees are responsible for paying 25% of the medical and prescription premiums; the State of Maryland subsidizes the remaining 75%. They may also elect dental, accidental death, dismemberment, and life insurance, paying the full premium for those benefits.
Leave may be granted after 120 days worked in a 12‑month period, accruing at one hour per 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
