Job Title: Transportation Safety & Training Coordinator (Full-Time) – Grade 11

Reports To: Transit Operations Supervisor

General Responsibilities: Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements an effective safety & training plan, and accident prevention program for Washington County Transit. Administers initial training, refresher, and remedial courses for all staff, including bus operators, and maintains related records.

Essential Functions / Typical Tasks:

• Assist with the development and implementation of all training materials.
• Provide employee training in safety, CDL, wheelchair securement, drug & alcohol.
• Plan, schedule, implement, and deliver new hire operator training, refresher training and post-accident training including classroom and on‑road instruction.
• Perform periodic ride‑along driver evaluations and report results to the operations supervisor.
• Operate all Washington County Transit fleet vehicles.
• Prepare and maintain records, files, reports and documentation related to training activities.
• Attain a working knowledge of bus schedules and routes.
• Dispatch buses and perform bus exchanges as needed.
• Perform other related work duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of operating commercial transit passenger vehicles, traffic laws and regulations, and the skill and care required for vehicle operation. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; dependability; ability to establish effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Effective written and verbal communication, computer proficiency using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.

Education and Experience: Equivalent to high school graduation and considerable experience operating motorized equipment. Good customer relations skills.

Physical Requirements: Light work requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly. Medium work requiring exertion of 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds constantly. Requires reaching, pushing, fingering, repetitive motions, vocal communication, hearing, visual acuity, depth and color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, operation of motor vehicles, and ability to work in varying environmental conditions.

Special Requirements:

• A valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and passenger endorsements.
• Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) Certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Ability to work varied schedules as needed.
