Highway Equipment Operator

Overview

The Town of Hartford, Vermont is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Highway Equipment Operator 1. This role primarily operates a variety of trucks and highway equipment, including plowing, salting, and sanding roads in winter, and performing general highway maintenance and construction work in other seasons. The position focuses on operating basic to moderately complex trucks and equipment, as well as manual labor.

• Operate a variety of trucks and highway equipment for winter maintenance (plowing, salting, sanding) and other seasonal highway maintenance tasks.
• Perform manual labor as part of general highway maintenance and construction projects.

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and experience providing comparable knowledge and skills.
• Possess a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tank Endorsement or be able to acquire within 1 year of employment.

Regular work hours are Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. This is a full-time position starting at $22.30 per hour with benefits that include health and dental insurance, optional comp time accrual, paid time off, and Vermont Municipal Employees Retirement System pension.
