Horticulture Assistant
Assist with multiple aspects of a grape research trial, as well as other areas of Extension.
Job DutiesThe person accepting this position is responsible for assisting with the management of a table and wine grape research trial. Job duties include pruning, training, and harvesting grapes. Data collection is also an important aspect of this position. The employee may also assist with facilitating education events, horticulture crop judging at county fairs, and other field research trials.
Qualifications- Have a current driver's license for essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials.
- Willingness and ability to operate, or learn to operate, power equipment, including string trimmers, rototillers, electric pruners, tractors, etc.
- Ability to pass USU Driver Training.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to collect field data, including weighing fruit, and record keeping.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

ADAMuch of the work is outdoors on farms and may be moderately strenuous. Regular bending is part of the job. Some responsibilities will be indoors. We do try to do work in the morning or evening when it is cooler. The ability to lift 25 pounds is required on a somewhat regular basis. Pesticides may occasionally be used in the trial or in adjacent fields.
Safety requirements on labels are followed to keep those working in the areas safe. The employee will not be required to participate in pesticide applications. Regular use of power equipment, including string trimmers, rototillers, electric pruners, and tractors, is required.
