Special Education Speech Aide - Part Time
POSITION: PART-TIME SPECIAL EDUCATION SPEECH LANGUAGE AIDE ~ CENTRAL COVE PRESCHOOL
(Up to 29.5 hours, Part-Time, Voucher Position, No Benefits)

Job SummaryUnder the direction and supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, Preschool Speech Aide help plan and implement specially designed instruction for work with students in both the general and special education population who have delays and disorders in language, articulation, fluency, and or voice. They play a significant role in helping young children access learning, play, and communication with their peers, helping them gain confidence in themselves and their environment.
Job Responsibilities- Implement purposeful lesson plans, activities, interventions, and scaffolds to support identified students in the regular curriculum
- Collect and log data for reimbursement requirements
- Share information with students, parents/guardians, and multi-disciplinary team members
- Provide data to help develop goals for student's IEP or therapy plan
- Participate in IEP meetings
- Assist with clerical duties
- Assist in administration of speech, language, and hearing screenings
- Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
- Support student interaction in development of social skills and relationship building
- Collaborate with other educators regarding daily routines and student support and participation.
- Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills

- Patience and compassion with students, families, and colleagues

- Commitment to learning
- Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between children
- Cool-tempered, friendly, and reliable
- Balance between a creative and practical mind
- Certification in child CPR preferred
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to lift at least 45 pounds
- Ability to engage with small children both on and off the floor
- Successful experience working with children at risk
