POSITION SUMMARY
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non‑nursing departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assesses the patient's condition and nursing care needs.
- Sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of patients.
- Develops individual nursing care plans.
- Implements care plans and makes revisions as needed.
- Evaluates patient care outcomes.
- Collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees.
- Administers medications, treatments and therapies.
- Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care.
- Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition.
- Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.
- Maintains facility equipment, supplies and work areas.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Coordinates and supervises activities of employees and department operations.
- Participates in performance/process improvement activities.
Education:
Associate's Degree in Nursing required;
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
1 year or less.
Certifications:
BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation; ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date to position.
Licenses:
Current RN license in state of practice.
- Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to patient and family needs.
- Critical thinking.
- Work well under pressure while keeping calm and maintaining customer focus.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, stand, walk, sit for extended periods, use hands to handle, reach, climb stairs, bend, crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. Repetitive motion of upper body is required for extended use of computer. Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Works in a well‑lit, ventilated, climate‑controlled office environment with routine office equipment; some equipment has moving mechanical parts. In a hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards including blood borne pathogens, contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Noise level typical for an office and/or hospital. A minimum of 10% overnight travel by land and/or air.
