Position Summary
03115 Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU. This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate, and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments.
Essential Functions- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatment.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
- Assesses the patient’s condition and nursing care needs.
- Sets goals and prescribes nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs.
- Develops individual nursing care plans.
- Implements care plans and revises as needed.
- Evaluates patient care outcomes.
- Collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees.
- Administers medications, treatments, and therapies.
- Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care.
- Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition.
- Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.
- Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
- Participate in meetings as required or assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Maintain facility equipment, supplies, and work areas.
- Assist in the orientation of new employees.
- Coordinate and supervise activities of employees and department operations.
- Participate in performance/process improvement activities.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
EducationAssociate’s Degree in Nursing required;
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
CertificationsBCLS upon completion of hospital orientation; ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date. Current American Heart Association BLS Certification or obtained within 90 days after hire. Current S.T.A.B.L.E. certification or obtained after 6 months of nursery experience but prior to completing 12 months of nursery experience. Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 90 days after hire.
LicensesCurrent RN license in state of practice.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer.
Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Works in well‑lit, ventilated and climate‑controlled office environment with routine office equipment. In hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to blood borne pathogens, contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and use of protective equipment.
Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or hospital environment. Minimum overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
