Our Brokerage Controller is a strategic, people-focused leader with a passion for both the big picture and the details. In this role, you’ll oversee the Brokerage Department and help ensure accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis, and strong relationships across the business. The position is located at our head office in Vernon, British Columbia, which houses Tolko’s corporate services groups including Sales, Marketing & Logistics, Finance, Accounting & Credit, IT, Procurement and Human Resources.

Qualifications- 5+ years of financial accounting experience.
- Team leadership experience supervising and developing high performers.
- Business degree with an accounting specialty.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required (or equivalent education/experience).
- Knowledge of the forest industry and wood products.
- Detail-oriented with strong GAAP knowledge, including cost accounting, inventory control, and margin analysis.
- Analytical and organized, with excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills; able to meet deadlines and manage competing demands.
- Advanced computer skills; proficient with Microsoft 365. Experience with JDE and Dynamics AX is an asset.
- Able to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Lead the Brokerage Department; accountable for profitability, strategy, and talent (hiring, development, performance).
- Maintain confidentiality of trader activity, compensation, and sensitive information.
- Oversee departmental administrative and sales functions; build strong partnerships with Mill Sales, Transportation, Accounting, Credit, and Sales & Inventory.
- Support Broker Representatives in managing their commission businesses, resolving issues and challenges, and facilitating growth in external supply.
- Prepare and review monthly close deliverables, including journal vouchers, financial statements, allocations, futures accounts, variance analysis, and trader reporting.
- Calculate/review rebates and commissions, including accruals and payment vouchers.
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and post inventory journal entries (including lower of cost or market).
- Provide audit support (working papers) and help maintain strong internal controls.
- Deliver timely analysis and insights to support leadership and department managers.
- Drive innovation aligned to Tolko’s strategic plan; improve processes, systems (e.g., JDE, Dynamics AX, Workflow, reporting tools), and BI deliverables (dashboards, reports, KPIs).

- You’ll earn a competitive salary based on your skills and experience. The expected base salary range for this position is $95,250 to $127,000/year.
