Product Development Engineering Technician

Location:

Vernon Hills, IL | Duration: 10 Months | Total Hours/week: 40 |

Contract on W2 (U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders or EAD/OPT/CPT).

Responsibilities
  • Assist R&D EU MDR and manufacturing‑related testing and associated tasks.
  • Receive, stage, label, track, and prep test product; trial test methods to confirm and optimize steps prior to validation.
  • Draft portions of test protocols, test reports, SOPs, and work instructions; perform discovery and feasibility testing; document testing in lab notebooks; collect and enter data.
  • Support testing at outside laboratories; renew confidentiality agreements; support calibration activities; conduct in‑person lab safety training; conduct bi‑monthly lab inspections; monitor the deionized water system; coordinate disposal of medical products and sharps with Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Perform testing by following test methods and protocols from R&D engineers; collect data and record results; enter test data into Excel and Minitab; organize and present observations to peers and management.
  • Assist preparation of documentation including test protocols, test reports, work instructions, SOPs, lab notebook studies while complying with GLP, GMP and quality requirements.
  • Review test methods during development and assist with test method validations as a test operator; review and edit existing test methods as needed.
  • Maintain test equipment, fixturing, and other lab equipment such as the vacuum system.
  • Provide in‑person training on test equipment, test methods, general lab policies and lab safety training to other personnel.
  • Generate purchase orders for general lab supplies; monitor inventory; coordinate shipping materials, receiving in materials and testing and conditioning for R&D products.
  • Assist preparation for internal and external audits; lab cleanup; labeling; organizing lab casework; confirming notebook status and inventory; coordinating cleaning with housekeeping; verifying calibrated equipment; communicating audit timing and rescheduling testing if needed.
  • Comply with budget spend requirements and approved supplier procedure.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED;
    Associate of Science degree in science, math or engineering preferred.
  • Experience working in a laboratory with knowledge of GMP, GDP and GLP and an ability to operate lab equipment with practical and technical knowledge of common lab instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (MS Windows, MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and ability to enter data in Microsoft Project and/or Minitab for data analysis.
  • Experience with physical testing tools and equipment (hand tools, force and torque gauges, balances, digital and analog gauges, Zwick or Instron) is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment is a plus.
  • Experience executing test method validations (preferred).
  • Ability to analyze test data and recommend actions; practical and technical knowledge of root cause and statistical methods.
  • Ability to optimize test methods utilizing problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Interpret and understand statistical analysis reports.
Physical Demands

Regularly stand, walk, sit, use sight, and use hands to manipulate objects, tools, controls; verbally communicate observations; physically demonstrate test designs discovered during testing; occasionally reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch when receiving, labeling, staging, and storing test product.
