Therapeutic Recreation Aide

Job SummaryVernon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 5-star rated facility, is seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreation Aide to join our Special Care Unit. As a Therapeutic Recreation Aide, you will play a crucial role in implementing a therapeutic recreation program that improves the quality of life for our residents. If you're passionate about making a difference in people's lives and have experience working with individuals with dementia and special memory care units, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities- Assist with the planning and implementation of group activities designed to motivate, stimulate, and improve the quality of life for facility residents
- Conduct one-on-one individualized activities and sensory stimulation for residents who do not actively participate in group activities
- Document resident participation and progress
- Assist with supply inventory, planning of purchases for the department, and organization of activities
- Assist with the transportation of residents to areas where programs are being conducted
- Conduct assessments of new admissions, documenting historical interests, hobbies, and abilities, as well as current limitations, prognosis, and family expectations
- Implement required programs, maintain thorough records, and support resident progress with activities of daily living and other restorative programs
- Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Director in accordance with the regulations of the Connecticut Public Health Code
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment helpful
- Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment
- Part-time position requiring coverage of specific hours: 9 am to 5 pm every Friday and every other Saturday and Sunday
