Job Description

The Social Worker IV (Social Work Supervisor) performs advanced (senior‑level) social work, including advanced clinical services, supervision of Social Workers, and participation on the Social Work Management Team.
The position works with adolescents at Vernon State Hospital.
- Attend work regularly, following the established shift schedule and any required overtime or extended shifts.
- Oversee the social work program, ensuring policies and procedures are updated annually and aligning with mental health services leadership goals.
- Submit evaluations, reports, and recommendations concerning staff, coverage, training needs, budgetary matters, and program status.
- Participate in budget planning, unit administration, program development, evaluation, and organizational work groups.
- Review social assessments, recovery plans, and discharge plans to confirm psychosocial, economic, and physical needs are met by the treatment team.
- Provide clinical and administrative supervision for Social Workers, including hiring, scheduling, performance evaluation, training recommendations, and disciplinary actions.
- Monitor quality of social work services through monthly audits, weekly case consultations, and monthly chart reviews, providing training when necessary.
- Oversee clinical treatment services (assessments, individual, group, and family therapy) and conduct competency checks for staff.
- Coordinate client discharges, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, families, and community resources; review and approve all non‑licensed discharge plans.
- Ensure department compliance with Continuous Quality Improvement programs, The Joint Commission, and CMS standards.
- Participate in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation as required.
- Knowledge of mental illness and emotional aspects of physical illness.
- Knowledge of rehabilitation methods, casework principles, and community resources.
- Knowledge of social work principles, methods, techniques, and practices.
- Skill in interviewing and effective communication.
- Ability to oversee a social work program and evaluate social assessments, reports, and studies.
- Ability to develop treatment plans and supervise staff work.
Licensed Master Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker required. Social Workers must maintain licensure in accordance with the Texas Board of Social Work Examiners.
Initial Screening Criteria- Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker with at least five (5) years of experience, including three (3) years directly working with persons with mental, social, or substance use disorders.
- Alternatively, Licensed Master Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker with at least two (2) years of experience, including one (1) year directly working with persons with mental, social, or substance use disorders, and one year of supervision experience.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males aged 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age;
Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age.
