- Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepares prescription drugs pursuant to medication orders with final pharmacist check prior to dispensing.
- Prepares bulk medications via unit-dosing equipment and supplies.
- Distributes patient medication and stock supplies to medication storage areas timely and accurately.
- Provides customer service support, to include answering telephone calls and assisting in person with requests.
- Enters and reviews medication information, prescriptions, and directions for use into databases or patient profiles, with the pharmacist providing the final verification.
- Manages the pharmacy inventory by placing orders, receiving, and reconciling shipments, and updating the pharmacy software; sets and adjusts par levels based on usage; monitors inventory routinely to remove expired or excess medication; arranges for pharmacy waste and expired medications to be removed through authorized vendors.
- Maintains files (i.e., invoices, outpatient prescriptions, controlled substance records) as required by the TSBP and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) regulations, and hospital policy.
- Prepares reports as requested by the Director of Pharmacy.
- Maintains pharmacy equipment and medication preparation areas orderly with routine sanitizing as required.
- Ensures security of the pharmacy and medications.
- Participates in hospital and department performance improvement activities.
- Maintains competency by participating in required hospital and licensure training by due date; participates in hospital in-services, departmental meetings, and continuing education offerings as requested; assesses own needs and seeks learning experiences; takes responsibility for keeping abreast of changes in hospital and departmental policies and procedures; and attends continuing education as required by the TSBP to maintain Pharmacy Technician certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal pharmacy rules and regulation.
- Skills in using pharmaceutical equipment to include, but not limited to, unit-dosing equipment and automated medication dispensing system.
