Job Description
Central Rehab-Therapeutic Recreation. The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician (RTT) performs moderately complex habilitative and rehabilitative therapy work. Provides assistance to therapists for an assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational/day programming). Provides direct contact instruction/training for patients on their treatment plans and trains others to ensure continuity of treatment plans. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a state vehicle may be required.
Works under the general supervision of a Registered Therapist, Psychologist, or Vocational/Day Programming Supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response/continuity of operations. May require alternate shift and/or location. Eligible for additional pay at maximum security locations.
Essential Job Functions- Attends work regularly and may be required to work specific shift schedule, rotating schedule, extended shift, overtime as per agency leave policy.
- Directly implements treatment plans through "hands on" methods, monitors treatment goals and objectives through direct contact observation.
- Assists in development and evaluation of treatment plans for assigned therapeutic specialty.
- Assists the assigned therapist or vocational/day programming supervisor in conducting functional skills assessments.
- Schedules, assists with and/or provides staff training to Psychiatric Nurse Assistants (PNA’s) to ensure continuity of treatment plan objectives.
- Monitors implementation of program objectives by PNA’s, gathers data and reports to interdisciplinary team and supervisor.
- Ensures satisfactory completion of paperwork in program related areas to meet applicable standards and procedures.
- Ensures collection of data related to treatment plans to assess progress accurately.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team process including providing information on functional skill assessments and intervention responses.
- Provides feedback to team on individual’s progress, works with PNA’s to maintain connection, assists with development of treatment plans.
- Maintains current skills in relation to assigned responsibilities.
- Knowledge and skills in relevant therapeutic techniques (e.g., applied behavior analysis, sensory integration, etc.).
- Knowledge of training staff in treatment methods and related areas.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission/Behavioral Health regulations and state hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to train staff in treatment methods and related areas.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to assist in development of treatment and support plans.
- Ability to develop and maintain data collection systems for assigned therapeutic specialty.
- Ability to utilize personal computers and relevant software.
- Ability to make accurate notes of an observation session and write reports.
- Ability to administer first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Ability to work with people who exhibit aggressive behavior.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of direct contact staff positions.
- Skill in working cooperatively and effectively with others.
Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it no later than 90 days after hire. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record.
Certified CPR or obtain within 12 months.
- At least 18 months experience working with people who have mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Preferred:
At least 18 months experience in development of treatment and support plans for such people.
