Responsibilities (selected) — Performs routine vocational nursing work and provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals residing at the State Hospital (SH) with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues. — Perform basic and routine nursing tasks to promote health within assigned areas and shifts. — Instruct direct support professionals and other staff on how to provide services and care that support medical needs.
— Perform technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations. — Follow agency, SH, and unit policies and procedures; assist with acclimating and orienting new LVNs to nursing functions at the SH; work under the direction and moderate supervision of a Registered Nurse. — Perform other duties as assigned, including disaster response/COOP participation which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
— May be eligible for additional pay for evenings, nights, weekends, or maximum security locations.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
Attends work regularly and may be required to work specific or rotating shifts, extended shifts, and/or overtime in accordance with agency policy. Administers medications and treatments; assists other medical staff in examining and caring for patients. Makes rounds and/or home visits; demonstrates competency in technical nursing tasks in accordance with HHSC, SH, and state regulations. Supports acclimation/orientation of new LVN staff to nursing functions at the SH.
Performs basic and routine nursing tasks under supervision to build skills for more advanced procedures (e.g., tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, breathing treatments). Monitors weight, diet, vital signs, and health status post-treatments. Documents treatments and observations timely in the patient’s medical record (electronic or paper). Fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and communicates pertinent information to the RN Case Manager and other team members.
Responds to emergencies and adheres to safety and infection control procedures. Collects specimens for laboratory examination and conducts screening tests as requested.…
