Groundskeeping Department

Responsibilities

Performs routine, journey level work in one or more building maintenance and construction trades (carpentry, masonry, painting, etc.), including repair/renovation and routine preventative maintenance to hospital buildings and residential homes. Responsibilities include inspecting, adjusting, installing adaptive equipment, wheelchair ramps, safety equipment, doors, windows, and more; maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment; completing paperwork and maintaining work order records;

communicating verbally and in writing; working as a team member with other shops and employees; and performing incidental tasks such as operating a motor vehicle and delivering supplies. Work is performed under moderate supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Performs other duties as assigned, including participating in disaster response and/or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation; may require alternate shift patterns or location. This position may be eligible for additional pay for work in maximum security locations.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work specific or rotating shift schedules, extended shifts, and/or overtime in accordance with agency policies; performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs inspections, adjustments, maintenance, and repairs on building systems in accordance with codes and standards for trades such as plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting, and electrical. Uses hand tools or equipment and follows directions.
  • Performs repairs and renovations to modernize buildings, building systems, or adapt to new uses; identifies time requirements and locations for repairs/renovations.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, test and safety equipment as necessary; maintains records of work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
  • May operate heavy machinery (e.g., backhoes, forklifts) as necessary.
  • May train others on proper procedures and methods for repairs or inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including disaster response/COOP support; may require alternate shift patterns or location.

Skills and Abilities

(KSAs)

  • Knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, and/or electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.
  • Skill in preventive maintenance and inspections of buildings and building systems.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, and interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with maintenance/facility team members.
