BUILDING INSPECTOR PAIRSBuilding Inspector I: $34.05 – $52.78 / hour or $66,397 – $102,921 annually
Building Inspector II: $37.54 – $58.20 / hour or $73,203 – $113,490 annually
Sr. Building Inspector: $39.42 – $61.10 / hour or $76,869 – $119,145 annually
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONInspects buildings and structures as they are constructed or renovated. Inspects existing buildings for safety and housing code compliance. Enforces all building codes and acts as liaison between the County government and the general public. This is a skilled position, working independently under the general supervision of the Building Official.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES- Organize daily inspection load, route, and activities.
- Inspects buildings and structures for compliance with building codes, county ordinances, and other rated laws, and regulations.
- Inspects construction activity for possession of permits.
- Issues violations and/or stop work orders when necessary and reports same to superior immediately with report of same.
- Conduct final inspections of buildings and structures for minor permits such as re‑roof, windows, doors, shutters, sheds, etc.
- Inspects fences, signs, billboards, canopies, and other accessory structures for compliance with building and zoning laws.
- Use computer for permitting and inspection system: resulting inspections, adding inspections, taking photos, accessing documents, researching, citing code sections, maps, producing reports, issuing Notice of Violations, Stop Work Orders, and emails.
High school graduate/GED supplemented by a minimum of five (5) years documented experience in construction (Journeyman level, superintendent, project manager, or equivalent), inspection, and plans examination, or an associate degree in engineering/building technology or related field. An associate’s degree may be considered to satisfy two (2) years of required experience. Contractor's license may be considered to satisfy some experience.

An associate’s degree may be considered to satisfy two (2) years of required experience. Contractor's license may be considered to satisfy some experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS Building Inspector I- Must possess or have the ability to meet the qualifications of DBPR for Provisional Inspector Certification for the required category (i.e., Building [structural], plumbing, mechanical, electric, etc.), of a minimum of one (1) primary discipline as a Building Inspector.
- Must obtain the required DBPR Standard Inspector Certification within one year.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must possess or have the ability to immediately obtain provisional licenses in a minimum of two (2) State Standard certifications in a primary discipline as a Building Inspector.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must possess a minimum of four (4) State Standard certifications in a primary discipline as a Building Inspector and/or Plans Examiner.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
Knowledge of the county, state, and federal building codes, and interpretation of the codes in previous similar situations.
