About the Role

At Pillar Community Church, we believe the future of the church is deeply tied to the formation of households. While age-specific ministries remain vital, we are convinced that lasting, durable faith is shaped most powerfully when discipleship is woven into the ordinary life of families and the wider congregation — not outsourced to programs alone.

We are seeking a Family Associate Pastor to help cultivate that culture: a pastor who will equip parents as the primary disciple rs of their children, lead our children’s and youth ministries from birth through high school graduation, and weave intergenerational formation into the fabric of our church life.

This role is pastoral, developmental, and cultural — not primarily program-driven. The goal is not more activity, but a simpler, more intentional model of ministry that forms resilient disciples from early childhood through adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the family discipleship vision

  • Develop and articulate a clear, biblical vision for family discipleship and spiritual formation.
  • Align children’s and youth ministry with the broader discipleship strategy of the church.
  • Help staff, leaders, and the congregation think beyond age‑segmented ministry toward whole‑family formation from early childhood through graduation.

2. Equip and shepherd parents

  • Provide practical tools for prayer, Scripture, and faith conversations at home.
  • Offer coaching, classes, and relational support for parents at all stages, including single parents and grandparents serving as primary caregivers.
  • Encourage both fathers and mothers in their shared roles as primary disciple rs.
  • Pastor parents with grace, especially those who feel inadequate or overwhelmed.

3. Oversee children’s and youth ministry

  • Provide leadership for ministries serving children and students from birth through high school graduation.
  • Ensure environments are safe, joyful, relational, and formative.
  • Align curriculum, teaching, and volunteer culture with household discipleship.
  • Evaluate and simplify programming where needed.
  • Build a clear pathway that prepares students for a thoughtful, faith‑filled transition into adulthood.

4. Cultivate intergenerational church life

  • Help children and youth participate meaningfully in corporate worship.
  • Foster mentorship between children, students, families, and the wider church body.
  • Strengthen shared practices of discipleship across generations.

5. Develop and lead volunteers

  • Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteer leaders across children’s and youth ministry.
  • Build a culture of warmth, consistency, and spiritual maturity.
  • Equip volunteers to disciple — not just supervise.

6. Provide pastoral care to families

  • Support marriages, parents, and households through real‑life challenges.
  • Walk with families through spiritual questions, transitions, and struggles — especially at key developmental stages.
  • Partner with pastoral staff in care, discipleship, and spiritual formation.
Qualifications
  • A deep and abiding walk with Jesus Christ.
  • Strong theological grounding in discipleship, spiritual formation, the church, and the family.
  • Demonstrated experience in pastoral, family, children’s, or youth ministry leadership.
  • Ability to teach, coach, and develop people across age groups.
  • Relational warmth, emotional maturity, and organizational follow‑through.
  • Alignment with the mission, values, and statement of faith of Pillar Community Church.
  • Successful completion of background check and reference verification [standard for child‑serving roles].
  • Formal theological education or ordination, preferred.
  • Prior experience equipping parents as primary disciple rs, preferred.
Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a pastor of people, culture, and formation — not merely a director of programs. The ideal candidate is:

  • Theologically grounded – able to articulate a compelling vision for family discipleship rooted in Scripture.
  • Pastorally warm – approachable, gracious, and trusted by parents, students, and volunteers.
  • A relational catalyst – able to inspire movement and help others take meaningful next steps.
  • A builder of people, not just systems – skilled at coaching parents and developing leaders.
  • Convicted but not…
