EssentialJob Duties
- Reviews a variety of development application types including zoning verification letters, site plans, subdivisions, and planned developments.
- Prepares and presents analyses, staff reports, and supporting documents to the Technical Review Committee, Planning & Zoning Commission, and Board of County Commissioners.
- Coordinates with other County departments, state and federal agencies, and other regulatory bodies.
- Coordinates and communicates with applicants, developers, property owners, and the general public on development review projects and other Planning-related matters.
- Conducts Planning-related reviews of single-family, multi-family, and commercial building permits.
- Performs Planner-of-the-Day duties.
Principal Planner:
Master’s degree in planning or a closely related field from an accredited university supplemented with 7 years of professional planning experience.
Senior Planner:
Master’s degree in planning or a closely related field from an accredited university supplemented with 2 years of professional planning experience; or bachelor’s degree in planning or related field, and a minimum of 5 years of direct experience.
- AICP preferred.
- Valid Florida driver's license.
- Knowledge of standard planning principles and practices.
- Knowledge of development review.
- Knowledge of economics, municipal finance, and sociology as applied to public planning. Knowledge of and experience with ARC Info/ARC view and other widely used office software.
- Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in both written and oral form to a community at large, Board members, stakeholders, and other audiences.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with division heads, outside agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to direct and participate in complex planning studies or elements thereof, and to analyze information and formulate substantive recommendations based upon such studies.
- Ability to interpret laws, rules, and regulations relative to County planning.
- Ability to direct work of others and present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to operate cameras/photo equipment.
- Typing/keyboard skills.
Work is performed primarily inside an office environment, with occasional site visits.
