Tooling Manager

Job Responsibilities

• Manages the design and development of tools and machinery to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Leads design reviews to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications.
• Provides expert input to resolve design issues and innovate solutions.
• Oversees the design, fabrication, sourcing, and procurement of fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production.
• Ensures design documentation and models for the fabrication of tools are accurately prepared. Controls budgets, costs, resource allocation, and materials required for tools.
• Develop, implement and maintain overall tooling management organization.
• Optimize tool design and CNC program control.
• Ensure that Tool Design Standards are developed and maintained.
• Develop and implement the tool recycle and maintenance process.
• Create, direct, and promote process, procedure, and action plans.
• Attend engineering and/or management meetings and provide necessary input and guidance.
• Interface with vendors and Purchasing department in selection of tools and various materials. Review project status with management as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years in a management role preferably in a manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform and accomplish tasks. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of document and date control as it relates to CNC programs and tool designs and understanding of configuration management.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to both office and plant environments. May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.
• Interacts regularly with various staff and employees, and occasionally with vendors, suppliers, community members and regulatory agency representatives.
• Travel and overtime are required when necessary.

• Supports all operational excellence initiatives ensuring full participation in all department services, continuous improvement efforts, and training programs.

• Maintains a safe, orderly working environment including FOD compliance.
• Ensures adherence to Piper Aircraft, Inc. corporate compliance policies.
• Adheres to organization and department policies and procedures.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with laws, rules and regulations appropriate to job function.
• Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
• Work ethically and with integrity; uphold organizational values.
• Maintains compliance with company safety policies and procedures, OSHA, and EPA regulations including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), behaviors, physical space and hazardous waste disposal procedures.
