Working Title:

Nursing Program Specialist -

This is varied and professional nursing work in the School Health Department. Staff provides nursing care in the Special Needs Shelter during activation during emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Assists School Health Nursing Supervisor and school health staff to identify and respond to outbreaks and activities involving school-age children.
  • Participates in high‑risk immunization programs and immunization outreach activities for children and adults.
  • Provides case management and disease‑specific education to school-age children and their parents.
  • Co‑ordinates the Employee Health Program, including immunization services, annual screening for Latent TB Infection (LTBI) and N‑95 mask FIT testing, and maintains the employee health database.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide assessments, counseling and referrals for students; coordinates special health screenings per the School Health Plan and Program Goals and identifies high‑risk criteria.
  • Maintains records and coordinates team efforts to meet the goals and objectives of the School Health Program; consults and liaises with the DOE School Health Coordinator, Assistant School Health Coordinator and Health Room Assistants.
  • Conducts conferences with students, parents, school staff, social workers/counselors and others as needed; provides training and educational programs to students, school and CHD staff, parents and the community.
  • Performs clinical work, special projects and assists with preparedness planning as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with providing pediatric immunizations, school mandatory pediatric immunization schedules and nursing experience with school‑aged children and their parents.
  • Active Florida Registered Nurse License or a multi‑state license from another Compact State;
    Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license to conduct Directly Observed Therapy at patients’ homes.
Qualifications
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and Rule 64B9, Florida Administrative Code.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Completed training and proficiency in all programs and modules used in EPI (Merlin, ADAP, TB, etc.).
  • Serves in an on‑call nursing rotation.
  • May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days during emergencies (e.g., special needs or Red Cross shelters).
  • Current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
