Overview
Description
This position performs duties in the maintenance of Indian River County’s Parks and Recreation grounds and facilities. Employees perform laboring tasks requiring the use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Employees are responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of the tools or equipment used. Instructions are usually received verbally and routine tasks are performed with considerable independence. All work is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion.
EssentialJob Duties
- Operates power mowers, line trimmers, edgers, and other equipment used in the maintenance of parks and recreation facilities.
- Removes litter from parks and recreation facilities to ensure a well-kept appearance.
- Perform janitorial duties in parks and recreation facilities.
- Inspect playground equipment, picnic tables, benches, and other park amenities for damage and normal wear and tear.
- Maintain amenities for the safe use and enjoyment of the public.
- Perform other related work as needed or required.
High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in grounds or facility maintenance is preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
- Knowledge of landscaping care methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, and equipment.
- Ability to operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, light and heavy trucks with trailer units.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance, under adverse weather conditions including rain and excessively hot weather conditions during the Summer months.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and deal tactfully and diplomatically with the general public.
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to operate a computer and/or handheld electronic devices for the purpose of clocking in/out, requesting time off, and accessing the employee self-service website.
Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or heavy equipment and all kinds of outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and grease and oil from equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, sharp or otherwise dangerous instruments or equipment, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
