Indian River County
Working under general supervision, performing skilled repairs and maintains small and large maintenance equipment.
- Analyzes mechanical problems and repairs or replaces small engines, pumps, chain saws, bushwhackers, weed eaters, generators, lawn mowers and hand tools in the shop or on location, as required.
- Performs preventive maintenance on engines and machinery.
- Assesses the need for replacement parts and makes recommendations to the supervisor on the purchase of specific parts and materials needed in performing assigned repairs and maintenance. Maintains records of parts, materials and labor.
- May repair the engines of tractors and small trucks.
- Performs monthly start ups and checks of the on-site emergency generator.
- Orders parts/supplies for equipment and supply room.
- Issues out supplies to employees.
High school diploma / GED and two years of journeyman experience in small engine mechanics, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations- Valid Florida Class D Driver’s License required.
Knowledge of engines and their maintenance, including diesel and gas.
Knowledge of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines.
Knowledge of principles and techniques in repairing and upkeep of engines, air tools, air wrenches, grinding machines, welders, and torches.
Ability to read and write and follow written and oral instructions.
Skilled in mechanics, troubleshooting problems, hydraulics.
Skill in diagnosing engines and diesel motors and diesel-powered equipment.
