Utilities Service Worker – Water Distribution

Performs a variety of activities in the maintenance, construction, and repair of utility mains and facilities. This is a semiskilled position, working under the direct supervision of an immediate supervisor and crew leader.

Responsibilities
  • Performs repairs to water distribution systems
  • Installs and maintains service lines
  • Operates a variety of trucks and equipment
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools
  • Responds to after-hours calls when serving on-call
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (no experience required)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • On-the-job training provided to obtain required licenses
  • Must possess, or obtain within 6 months of hire, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)
  • Must obtain, within 18 months of hire, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Must obtain, within 18 months of hire, a Florida Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License
  • Overtime opportunities available
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in pipe fitting
  • Knowledge of the construction and repair of utility facilities
  • Knowledge of water and sewer systems
  • Ability to work from sketches, maps, and blueprints
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Good physical ability, including strength for heavy lifting and carrying, and the ability to work under adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to operate various types of power tools and equipment used to install, maintain, or repair utility mains and services
  • Ability to work on-call
