Position: Construction Laborer / Carpenter Helper (Non-Union)
The Weitz Company is hiring a variety of roles including Laborers & Carpenter Helpers for a project site in Vero Beach, FL. These are non-union roles.

What You'll Do:

Carpenter Helper:

* Assist Carpenter with erecting scaffolding, ladders, and stairs for assembling structures, constructing concrete formwork, installing wood blocking, operating saws, hammers, drills, and other mechanical equipment

* Mix cement, sand, and water to produce concrete, grout, or slurry using hoe, trowel, tamper, scraper, or concrete-mixing machine

* Assist with preparation of concrete base including setting wood forms and positioning steel; measure and pour concrete; finish concrete; remove wooden forms and backfill; clean site; spread loam

* Perform a wide variety of technical and physical duties in the placement and finishing of concrete curb, slabs, and structures

* Ability to operate machinery, hand and power tools of all types: saws, air hammers, tampers, cement mixers, floats and trowels, small mechanic hoists, jackhammers, generators and a variety of others

* Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials

* Assist with layout and install templates of formwork, partitions, anchor bolts, etc.

* Read and examine blueprints

* Access confined spaces such as tunnels, shafts, or pits

Laborer:

* Signal and guide operator to lift and move loads

* Assist carpenters with construction of formwork or other carpentry work

* Assist workers by moving machinery and equipment, or lifting and moving material

* Clean up debris and remove trash

* Assist with pouring concrete walls, floors, footings, etc.

* Push or pull loads as they are lowered and deposited in place

What We're Looking For:

* Education:

* High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

* Experience:

* Minimum of 2 years of related experience, training, or applicable education

* Skills:

* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure

* Ability to make complex cuts not to waste material and figure out complex forming systems

* Training and complying with all safety rules

* Ability to perform without constant supervision

* Language

Skills:

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints and specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

* Ability to write routine correspondence and speak effectively with customers and co-workers

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, sit, stand and walk on uneven ground; use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; frequently make repetitive reaching and other movements with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee frequently is required to speak and listen and must regularly lift and/or move materials.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear all company or project required personal protective equipment (PPE), regularly work in outside weather conditions, be aware of close moving mechanical parts, and perform in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Employee must also be able to work scheduled/ unscheduled overtime, per the needs of the project (weekends and holidays included).
