Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
Responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, PM inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics of light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical equipment, and other duties as assigned. The role involves advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment: electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment: electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems and determine accurate relevance of information using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using a company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or exceed most Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve PO numbers, or discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Maintain company‑issued service truck and perform safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience; or a higher degree/certification beyond HS diploma/GED with related discipline; or 5 years of experience.
- Possess a set of hand tools required to perform duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or current DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- Minimum age 21 per interstate operating authority regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and maintain Driver Qualification File.
