Equipment Operator - Road & Bridge

Working under the general supervision of a Foreman or Manager operates large and small dump trucks and large and small agricultural tractors pulling half batwing mower decks. Also operates zero-turn mowers and walk behind mowers.

• Mows road right‑of‑ways including mowing around retention ponds associated with road right‑of‑ways.
• Sweeps paved road shoulders and bike lanes with a tractor‑mounted sweeper.
• Operates steel wheel rollers to provide compaction of dirt and asphalt.
• Hauls spoil dirt and clean fill or other material as needed to provide repairs to roadways.
• Washes, cleans, and performs routine maintenance to equipment.

High school graduate or GED and three years of working experience, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.

• Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License.
• A valid Florida Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with tanker and/or hazmat and tanker endorsements is preferred. Holders of a Class A or B CDL are eligible for incentive pay based on the CDL license classification and endorsements.

• Knowledge of the safe operation and capabilities of medium and heavy construction equipment.
• Knowledge of the component parts, operating principles, and maintenance needs of medium and heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of effective precautionary measures to avoid accidents.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to move heavy objects and endure strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.
• Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment.
