Our client is a well-established engineering and automation company specializing in the design and manufacture of custom automated equipment for a variety of industries. The organization develops innovative automation solutions including robotic work cells, automated assembly systems, material handling equipment, packaging machinery, and inspection systems. Their equipment supports customers across industrial, automotive, medical device, food, and consumer products markets.
Position OverviewThe Service Manager will oversee the service department and manage the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and support of custom automation systems. This individual will work closely with customers to resolve technical issues, coordinate field service activities, and help drive ongoing service and preventative maintenance programs.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a technically strong service professional who is interested in stepping into a leadership position. Previous management experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer service and support inquiries.
- Troubleshoot equipment and automation issues remotely and determine when onsite support is required.
- Coordinate and dispatch field service technicians as needed.
- Lead and support a small team of service technicians while collaborating with engineering and technical personnel across the organization.
- Prepare service quotations and manage scheduling, coordination, and execution of maintenance, repair, installation, and upgrade projects.
- Develop and grow preventative maintenance agreements and ongoing service programs with new and existing customers.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through responsive communication and technical support.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives within the service department.
- 3+ years of experience in Field Service, Service Engineering, Applications Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical role.
- Experience supporting industrial automation, custom machinery, manufacturing equipment, robotics, packaging equipment, assembly systems, or similar technologies.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude.
- Excellent customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to diagnose and debug machinery and automation systems.
- Previous field service, machine assembly, maintenance, or technical support experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field is a plus but not required.
