The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex manufacturing projects by analyzing customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements. This role works cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, and Sales to ensure quotes reflect true manufacturing costs and align with business objectives.
This position also serves as a customer-facing technical resource, supporting discussions around manufacturability, pricing, and project scope while helping drive profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities- Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Production, and Engineering teams to validate materials, labor, and process assumptions
- Develop and deliver detailed quotations that align with company pricing and margin goals
- Analyze discrepancies between quoted and actual costs; recommend adjustments to pricing or processes
- Maintain accurate estimating data, customer requirements, and quote history within ERP systems
- Evaluate tooling, fixtures, and equipment requirements and incorporate associated costs into estimates
- Participate in contract review to ensure alignment between quoted scope and production execution
- Communicate directly with customers to clarify requirements and support manufacturability discussions
- Support material pricing, cost modeling, and technical problem-solving across departments
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and follow‑on business
- Experience in manufacturing estimating, cost analysis, or technical quoting
- Strong understanding of machining, metal fabrication, or related manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Experience with ERP systems and cost tracking
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Effective communication skills with both internal teams and customers
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred, not required
- 5+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Estimating, or Account Management in a manufacturing environment
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
