Quality Lab Technician

2nd shift:
Monday to Friday 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM

Job Description

The Quality Technician is a vital member of the team, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of product quality. This role involves collaborating with the first shift at the start of the day to understand the production status, address any quality issues, and manage ongoing activities. The technician will rotate daily between running samples through lab instrumentation and conducting quality checks on the production floor.

Routine quality tests on coatings, packaging, and in-process products will be conducted, including temperature, line conditions, and basic chemical testing such as moisture, pH, salt, and fat analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Run samples through lab instrumentation and perform daily quality checks on the production floor.
  • Conduct routine quality tests on coatings, packaging, and in-process products, including temperature, line conditions, and basic chemical testing (moisture, pH, salt, and fat analysis).
  • Complete instrument calibrations and manage the check-in/check-out process of laboratory equipment for production use.
  • Provide daily production and quality support for smoked product links.
  • Collaborate in the handling of pasteurized processed cheese, wedges, blocks for co-packers, and queso dip.
  • Manage full-case products, portioning, smoking, and preparing finished goods for customer return.
  • Work with various product formats, including 0.7 oz to 8 oz cups, and oversee the production of vegan cream cheese and vegan cheese wedges.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in quality control and laboratory practices.
  • Understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Experience in microbiology, food industry, and food production.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year of experience in quality and food manufacturing within GMP standards.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with two 10-minute paid breaks and one 30-minute unpaid break. Occasional Saturday work may be required, with double time compensation. The environment includes a chem lab located centrally in the production area and a micro lab adjacent to the office space. The team comprises two quality techs and a microbiologist on the first shift, and one quality tech (with plans to add another) and a microbiologist on the second shift.

The facility features three packaging lines and eight production lines.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Verona, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.50 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
