The Fence Crew Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily work involved in assigned fence installation projects to ensure quality and timely completion of work site requirements meeting or exceeding our customer expectations. This includes directing and organizing the daily work of Fence Crew Members and performing labor and tasks necessary for the installation of Chain Link, Wood, Ornamental Iron, and Vinyl fences.
- Directs, organizes and oversees all aspects of Fence Installation work at assigned worksites to assure quality and timely completion of work site requirements.
- Leads by example, and provides guidance for Crew Members, in regards to company policies and procedures such as attendance, conduct and dress code.
- Communicates with and provides exceptional customer service to clients in the absence of a Project Coordinator, Production Manager, or Sales.
- Identify problems at the work site and follow through appropriately, consulting with a Project Coordinator, Production Manager, or Sales as appropriate.
- Responsible for daily preparation of trucks and equipment, loading and securing equipment and material.
- Performs all tasks involved in installation of fence, including but not limited to, removing old fences, preparing the ground, mixing and preparing concrete settings, digging trenches, and positioning fence elements.
- May determine and layout or follow new fence lines, follow height specifications and ensure quality installation.
- Operates equipment including, but not limited to, air pounders, post hole diggers, saws, various hand tools, as well as mini and/or full size skid loaders.
- May operate company vehicle to and from worksite.
- Assists customers, coworkers, and sales staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Maintain a neat and organized work area to service the customer as efficiently as possible.
- Communicates effectively with coworkers, customers, delivery drivers, Production Coordinators, and Sales staff to ensure efficiency.
- Be an active participant in snow removal during the winter months.
- Ensures team's compliance with company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisors/Managers.
- Outdoor Work: Work is primarily performed outdoors throughout all seasons.
- Weather Exposure: Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather such as rain, snow, heat, or cold.
- Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties involving equipment operation that exposes the individual to elevated noise levels.
- Chemical Exposure: Duties may expose the individual to chemicals and fertilizers.
- Peak Season Hours: Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:45 am to 5:00 pm (40-55 hours per week) during our peak season (approximately April to November). Saturday hours as needed.
- Full-time Seasonal Position: This is a full-time seasonal position.
- Overtime: Occasional overtime as workload dictates.
- Winter Hours: Hours vary in the winter months (approximately December through March) based on snow removal needs.
- Fencing Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of Fence installation, Carpentry, or Construction experience is preferred, but not required
- Leadership: Previous Crew Leader experience is preferred.
- Equipment Operation: Previous experience operating equipment (loader, bobcat, skid steer, or other used in landscape installation) is helpful but not required.
- Product Knowledge: Knowledge of fence material is helpful but not required.
- Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
- Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
