The Woodford County Fiscal Court is currently accepting applications for the position of Emergency Management Deputy Director. This full-time position reports to the Emergency Management Director and assists in all tasks related to daily administration of Emergency Management as required by KRS Chapter 39. Other duties include responding to all emergencies and coordinating response with other county agencies. The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of public safety or military experience.

Due to the rapid response needed to emergency situations, preference may be given to applicants who reside in Woodford County.

Position Summary

The Emergency Management Deputy works at the discretion of the County Judge/Executive and the Magistrates. The Emergency Management Deputy’s immediate supervisor is the Emergency Management Director.

The Deputy’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists with preparatory, response, recovery, and mitigation initiatives of the Department.
  • Responds to emergencies deemed significant by KRS Chapter 39 to coordinate response with other agencies in Woodford County.
  • Represents the Department at various functions, interacting with civic and community groups to promote emergency management programs.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities to be response ready.
  • Completes a minimum of 16 related training.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Inspects and cleans vehicles, work area, equipment and supplies as needed. Responsible for refueling vehicles daily, proper radio communications, driving an emergency vehicle emergent and non-emergent to and from the scene and to other designated locations. Assist other emergency service agencies within the geographical area assigned concerning public safety issues and situations in an emergency and non-emergency role. Perform other tasks as required or assigned by the Director.

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma
  • Two years’ public safety or military experience
  • IS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System
  • IS-200 Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
  • IS-700 An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • IS-800 National Response Framework, An Introduction
  • ICS-300 Intermediate
  • ICS-400 Advanced
    • (300 & 400 completed within 18 months)
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations
Special Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Safety is always the first priority in day-to-day activities as well as when responding to emergencies.

  • Possession of current driver’s license is required.
  • Minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must clear a criminal background check.
  • Must pass with no restriction, an employment physical including drug screening.
  • Successful completion of (and maintain current certification in) CPR.
