Civil Engineering, Operations Manager
At Wall-tech, a leading prefabricated building construction firm specializing in cold-formed steel (CFS) framing and enclosure systems, the Prefab Project Manager plays a vital role in the success of every job we work on. Based in DeForest, Wisconsin, with over 35 years of experience, we help contractors and owners deliver faster, more cost-efficient projects through integrated planning, design, prefabrication, and installation.
Right now, we’re looking for an experienced Prefab Project Manager who can demonstrate the Initiative and True Grit that customers of all types and sizes have come to expect from Wall-tech. This role blends elements of construction project management and preconstruction management, overseeing the development, coordination, and delivery of prefabricated wall panels and enclosure systems across sectors such as multifamily housing, student living, senior care, and commercial buildings.
HOW YOU’LL BE HELPING THE TEAM:
Basically, we’ll be counting on you to be tightly woven into every stage of the prefab construction process, from preconstruction planning and value engineering through fabrication, installation, and final close-out. Some of the critical activities you’ll perform include managing projects from estimating and scheduling through resource allocation; coordinating with engineering teams on the structural aspects of cold-formed steel framing for prefabricated exterior walls and enclosures;
preparing project bids, submittals, and documentation; reviewing engineering calculations, fabrication drawings, and details to ensure compliance and quality; building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, architects, and project stakeholders; developing and refining standards, procedures, and best practices for prefab operations; evaluating new construction materials, claddings, and systems for suitability in off-site prefabrication; performing occasional field observations at construction sites or fabrication facilities to monitor progress and resolve issues;
and overseeing cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field. (Graduate in a related field, or no college degree but plenty of experience as a PM? That works, too.)
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience in construction or prefabrication, with a focus on cold-formed steel or enclosure systems.
- Strong knowledge of prefab processes, including preconstruction planning, product development, lean construction principles, drawings, specs, and the latest building methods—you can read a blueprint backward and forward.
- Proficiency in relevant software, including Revit, AutoCAD, project management tools like Procore or Primavera, and MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client interactions and team coordination.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and trade drawings and specifications.
- Capability to safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain and ongoing operations.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Local to the DeForest area preferred; relocation assistance may be available.
- You’re team-oriented and embrace ACCOUNTABILITY – results matter, you're responsible, and you can always be relied upon to keep our commitments.
- You can manage schedules and prioritize workloads, ensuring tasks are completed on time and under budget. Behind your back, people call you organized.
- Problem-solving comes naturally to you, and your analytical, written, and verbal skills are evident in everything you do.
- Do you meet every challenge with TRUE GRIT – hard work, determination, and perseverance?
- Do you take INITIATIVE – not waiting for problems to ambush you, being resourceful, and proactively seeking ways to improve outcomes?
- Do you have that GOOD OLD-FASHIONED GIVE-A-DAMN – 100% dedicated to the people you work with, the customers you serve, the buildings you work on, and the communities you work in? It’s part of your DNA. You’re hard-wired to care about the team, the customer, and – ultimately – the building project.
