LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES ACCESSIBILTY SPECIALIST
Join the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Office of Learning Technologies, within the Center for Teaching and Learning. The specialist will lead efforts to ensure course materials comply with Title II requirements and promote Universal Design for Learning principles throughout the university.
Responsibilities:
- Functions as the secondary administrator of the Canvas-embedded tool for auditing online courses for accessibility issues.
- Monitors course audits.
- Keeps the Director informed of progress and issues to assure accessible course material campus-wide.
- Assists academic unit leaders in keeping track of compliance rates and issues in their unit.
- Meets with individual faculty to resolve course accessibility issues as needed.
- Keeps current with accessibility laws and standards.
- Assists in maintaining a knowledge base on accessibility tools and methods for creating and remediating accessible course materials.
- Works on individual courses and course materials for accessibility remediation as needed.
- Helps lead graduate student assistants in remediating course materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Computer Science, Disability Services, or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital materials and general support services for people with disabilities is required. Advanced computer skills and familiarity with a range of software tools for creating and remediating digital course materials.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead workshops for faculty. Experience with learning management systems, especially Canvas, is a plus.
Salary commensurate with experience.
