What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Responsible for designing small and large mechanical engineering projects, utilizing theoretical knowledge and practical methods, under general supervision.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Adhering to department design and drafting standards.
  • Understanding project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Providing on-site startup assistance.
  • Performing stress analysis, specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
  • Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies for efficient engineering solutions.
  • Producing preliminary designs and material estimates for project budgeting.
  • Preparing detailed design calculations and sketches, organized for review and drafting use.
  • Supporting drafting team in resolving layout and detailing issues.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary design leaders for seamless project execution.
  • Reviewing vendor and discipline drawings for mechanical input.
  • Designing with an emphasis on material efficiency, constructability, and client satisfaction.
  • Checking calculations for accuracy and compliance with codes and standards.
  • Communicating design or scope changes to senior engineers.
  • Assisting in developing procurement packages and specifications.
  • Developing construction specifications and reviewing fabrication/submittal drawings.
  • Gathering field data, checking tie-ins, and providing construction support.
  • Mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Applying advanced engineering techniques for complex designs.
  • Supporting interoffice project execution with small work packages.
Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration preferred.

Experience: 5+ years in relevant industrial mechanical engineering roles.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of design standards, codes, and piping materials.
  • Experience in piping system sizing, stress analysis, and safety device specifications.
  • Proficiency in estimating, CAD standards, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and virtual team skills.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
