Position Overview/Duties
The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is one of the premier engineering and scientific research organizations in the world. As the research organization of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ERDC conducts R&D in support of the Soldier, military installations, and civil works projects (water resources, environmental missions, etc.) as well as for other federal agencies, state and municipal authorities, and with U.S. industry through innovative work agreements.

Position Duties

  • Provides expert technical guidance on electrical systems serving ITL. Determines requirements and makes recommendations for equipment selection and installation to meet current and future computing facility needs.
  • Interfaces with DSRC, SRC, RD&E, and USACE-G6 customers. Facilitates computing system installations by providing necessary power circuits and configurations.
  • Performs design work for minor construction and facility upgrades. Maintains electrical one-lines, facility floor plans, and electrical system models. Reviews electrical designs and specifications for compliance.
  • Provides technical oversight for the ITL Critical Power Infrastructure Maintenance Contract, including the determination of task order requirements.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to the Mobile District, AE firms, DPW, and Entergy MS regarding utility service, minor designs, and backup power systems.
  • Diagnoses equipment failures and identifies corrective actions. Responds to emergency outages to mitigate failures and restore facility power.
  • Assists with ITL facility master planning. Advises the Lab Director and Deputy Director on infrastructure issues and recommends mitigation strategies.

Other Conditions and Requirements – This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing one of the Science, Technology, and Research Laboratory (STRL) specific DHAs to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in competitive service.

:
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in federal service (GS-11).

Specialized Experience Requirement
:
To qualify for this position at the DB-0850-04 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/pay band in the Federal service that has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is defined as: Professional engineering experience serving as a technical authority and subject matter expert in the design, maintenance, and modernization of critical electrical infrastructure, backup power, and cooling systems specifically supporting mission critical facilities.
