Job Description
Title:
Library Media Teacher Leader
- Hold a valid New York State certification in the designated area of leadership position
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills

- Knowledge of curriculum and the instructional process
- Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting
- Be able to work effectively with a variety of staff and groups
- Support the development and implementation of the district’s Library Media curriculum, program, and initiatives
- Lead and participate in pilots and program reviews to evaluate new Library Media instructional materials, software, and methods
- Gather feedback and information to assess department, grade‑level, and pathway needs
- Coordinate Library Media‑related special events, or programs (e.g., guest speakers, author visits) with key stakeholders
- Oversee the department budget and manage the ordering, provisioning, and distribution of Library Media Center materials
- Assist teachers in the analysis, interpretation, and application of program and student participation data
- Attend identified training and professional development deemed appropriate by the administration
- Facilitate professional learning, including workshops, demonstrations, and targeted presentations for departments, buildings, or grade levels
- Coordinate monthly meetings of School Library Media Specialists to discuss topics impacting school libraries and library media services, including the annual PLC Goal Setting process
- Serve as a liaison from Victor Schools to BOCES for Library Media matters
- Provide input on district‑based professional development, staff programs, and conference‑day planning
- Serve as an instructional consultant for department teachers
- Set standards for the maintenance of inventory and records of library collections
- Meet monthly with the Director of Technology and other program teacher leaders, as necessary
- Communicate and share updates, data, and department initiatives at monthly building or department meetings
- Assist building administration with operational logistics, including master schedule development and the coordination, proctoring, and scoring of assessments
- Contribute to the hiring process by serving on designated interview committees
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student, family, and staff information
- Fulfill general teacher leader responsibilities, as assigned
- Maintain comparative statistics regarding collection size relative to grade‑level enrollment and other relevant data
- Report to administrators on topics related to library media services
- Facilitate monthly department meetings, record minutes, and distribute copies to principals and the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
- Keep all School Library Media Specialists current on relevant State and school district policies
- Assist in selecting, orienting, and coaching new staff in the department
- Provide input into staff development programs and conference day planning
- Meet with principals as needed to discuss library organizational topics
- Facilitate communication between School Library Media Specialists, principals, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, and parents
- Perform other specific responsibilities related to school libraries as may be deemed necessary by the building principal or Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
As per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Teachers' Association
Terms of EmploymentThe position is a ten‑month position. The terms are established in accordance with the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Teachers' Association.
EvaluationPerformance in this position will be evaluated annually by district administration.
