Job DescriptionThe Drill & Blast Engineer will design, implement, and optimize drilling and blasting operations for open‑pit mines, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with environmental regulations.
Responsibilities- Develop and optimize blast designs to maximize rock fragmentation, minimize environmental impact, and maintain safety.
- Select appropriate drill pattern sizes, explosive types, and initiation sequences.
- Ensure drill patterns are executed as planned and align with blast design specifications.
- Understand procurement, storage, and handling of explosives, complying with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Monitor environmental impact of blasting operations, including vibration, noise, and fly‑rock, and implement mitigation measures.
- Collect and analyze data from drilling and blasting activities to monitor performance, optimize processes, and report on key metrics.
- Provide monthly cost and usage reports to stakeholders.
- Work closely with geologists, mine planners, and other engineers to integrate drilling and blasting plans with overall mine operations.
- Support cross‑functional teams to achieve production targets.
- Identify opportunities for improving drilling and blasting processes, reducing costs, and enhancing safety and efficiency.
- Assist with projects as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field, or 5+ years blasting experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong communication skills with planning peers, managers, projects and operations.
- Adaptability to changing mine conditions.
- Preferred experience with mine design and scheduling packages.
- Site‑based position at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located above 8,000 feet in a high‑altitude environment.
- Fieldwork in varying weather conditions and uneven terrain, including stair climbing.
- Required personal protective equipment: steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
For applicants residing in Colorado, the salary range starts at $95,000 to $105,000. Benefits include 401(k), medical/dental/vision insurance, employee share purchase plan, paid time off, and short‑term incentive plan.
