Job DescriptionThe Controls Systems Programmer is responsible for supporting and optimizing automation and control systems across the CC&V fixed plant, including crushing circuits, ADR processing facilities, remote pumping systems, and solution treatment operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by providing advanced troubleshooting, programming, and continuous improvement of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
Day to Day Responsibilities- Troubleshooting and supporting PLC, HMI, SCADA, and instrumentation systems across the fixed plant.
- Developing, modifying, and maintaining control logic (Rockwell‑based systems).
- Supporting crushing, ADR, pumping, and solution treatment systems.
- Assisting with installation, commissioning, and upgrades of control systems.
- Performing system analysis and implementing process improvements.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and program revisions.
- Collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
- Providing after‑hours troubleshooting support, including remote access.
- Training maintenance personnel on controls systems operation and troubleshooting.
- Creating, managing, and closing work orders within SAP, ensuring accurate documentation of work performed, parts usage, and labor tracking.
- Supporting planning and scheduling efforts, including providing input on job scopes, critical spares, and maintenance strategies.
- Promoting safe work practices in alignment with MSHA and SSR Mining standards.
- Project Management support for execution of controls‑related capital and sustaining projects.
- Assist with scope development, commissioning, and system integration.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors.
- Maintain proper change management and documentation control.
- Optimization and leadership: identify and implement process control improvements.
- Lead troubleshooting during critical plant upsets.
- Serve as a technical resource for E&I technicians.
- Demonstrate mindfulness toward system impacts and operational priorities when making programming or process changes.
- Show willingness to assist with budgeting activities, including project cost estimates, tracking, and justification support.
- Minimum 5+ years of industrial controls experience.
- Strong experience with Rockwell Automation systems (Control Logix, Studio 5000, Factory Talk, Panel View).
- Knowledge of industrial networks and communications.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, VFDs, and instrumentation.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems with limited documentation.
- Experience using SAP (or similar CMMS) for work order management, including creating and closing work orders, documenting labor, materials, and findings, and supporting maintenance planning and tracking.
- Experience in gold processing operations (ADR, heap leach, solution treatment).
- Familiarity with PI Historian, Factory Talk Historian, or Asset Centre.
- Experience with remote pumping and telemetry systems.
- Maintenance background in mining or heavy industry.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated financial awareness and willingness to contribute to budgeting and cost control efforts.
Environment:
This role involves working in both office and field environments, including outdoor work at mine sites with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
Location:
The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is located at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level.
Schedule:
M‑Th, 10 hrs / day. Physical Demands:
The role may require walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
Hourly rate (for applicants residing in CO): $51.76/hr this overtime‑eligible role offers 401(k), medical/dental/vision insurance, employee share purchase plan, PTO, and STI benefits.
