Victoria Children’s Choir
‘Transformation Through Music’
Artistic Director and Choir Conductor
The Victoria Children’s Choir (VCC) has a 25-year history of success as a cultural organization that aspires to artistic excellence through choral music and music education. The Choir has 150 choristers in four choral ensembles, ranging from 7 to 20 years old.
The Board is now searching for a new Artistic Director beginning in the 2026-27 season, who demonstrates the skills and interest in building on the organization’s global reputation. The new AD will play an integral role in leading the VCC to the next level of choral music excellence. Guided by the VCC’s mission statement, the AD will foster the sense of community and joy of singing that are hallmarks of the Victoria Children’s Choir.
The AD should possess a combination of musical background, education and experience appropriate for this leadership position, combined with creativity and good
planning and communication skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for the longer term planning (3 – 5 years), seasonal artistic concepts and music education plans, including tours, for all choirs and choristers of the VCC.
The AD will assume the role of Conductor of the Concert Choir. That role may include conducting a second ensemble, depending on the competencies and availability of the preferred candidate. The candidate will find satisfaction in inspiring, developing and supporting young choristers in their ongoing vocal development, music education and personal growth. The AD will direct other artistic staff, collaborating on setting appropriate goals, learning objectives and activities for each choir.
From September to June each year, the VCC presents several major concerts plus many community performances, in all musical genres, with an emphasis in the past on classical and baroque choral repertoire. The Choir values its ongoing partnerships and collaborations with other major artistic organizations such as the Victoria Symphony, Pacific Opera Victoria and the Victoria Jazz Society. Choristers participate in national and international tours every second year.
The AD role is an annual, part-time contractual position and reports directly to the Board. He/she works closely with the Executive Director, especially in the areas of
finance, fundraising, donor relations and the co-supervision of Choir Managers. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and the extent of conducting responsibilities.
Please reply in confidence to Catherine Fouracre, Board Chair and Chair of the Selection Committee, at preside Please include your CV
and a cover letter that describes your background and your future goals. Also helpful would be a comment on your interest and/or availability to conduct a second ensemble.
