The Marine Environmental Specialist role presents a tremendous career growth opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing development of our team and will receive excellent mentorship from experienced environmental professionals. The ideal candidate will have a marine ecology or biology background. Project assignments will cross several industry sectors (e.g., marine and coastal restoration and development, infrastructure, tunnelling, renewable energy, ports and terminals, etc.).
This position will be based out of a remote Victoria office and may require travel throughout Western Canada. A vehicle is required.

This position will be based out of a remote Victoria office and may require travel throughout Western Canada. A vehicle is required.
- Participation in environmental surveys and monitoring studies, focusing on marine and near shore ecology, fish and fish habitat (e.g., saltmarsh, eelgrass, kelp), water and sediment quality, benthic invertebrate communities or other related elements of the marine environment.
- Working typically on marine and coastal planning infrastructure projects.
- Assist in data collection, entry, quality control, analysis, and interpretation for preparing technical reports.
- Preparation of permit applications.
- Environmental compliance documentation, including inspections and audits.
- Literature and data review, collation, and communication of review/research to peers.
- Assist with project management responsibilities including the coordination of equipment, personnel, and proposal preparation.
- Engage with marine and management teams on a variety of projects and contribute technical inputs to project planning and assessments.
- Completed BSc or BA in marine biology or ecology, or equivalent with appropriate qualifications for work in BC.
- Minimum 3+ years of marine environmental consulting experience.
- Experience in scientific writing, scientific data collection and analysis, and relevant field techniques.
- Training or courses relating to data analysis, environmental assessments and permitting in BC.
- A valid Canadian driver’s license for the past three years, experience driving a pickup truck and the ability to meet the requirements for our third party automobile insurance policy.
- Relevant professional certification (e.g., RBTech/BiT/RPBio, AAg/PAg, EPt/EP, etc.) or ability to obtain is an asset.
- Ability to work within diverse teams and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability and interest to undertake fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including potentially working in remote locations.
- Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to potentially work additional or non-standard hours.
