Compensation: $30 – $35/ hour (full-time / permanent)
On-call premium and overtime paid for rotating coverage

Carpenter (Multi-Skilled Tradesperson)

Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a Multi-Skilled Tradesperson. This role is responsible for performing structural repairs, rebuilding, and finish carpentry following water, fire, mold, or impact-related losses.

The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, empathetic with homeowners, and committed to high‑quality workmanship in demanding or changing environments.

What You’ll Do:

Perform structural and finish carpentry including framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, trim, doors, and cabinetry

Complete restoration repairs to pre-loss condition or better

Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites, especially in occupied homes

Communicate respectfully and professionally with homeowners, clients, and project managers

Accurately track materials, equipment, and task completion

Adapt to shifting priorities during emergency response or evolving job scopes

Follow all safety rules, building codes, and company procedures

Collaborate effectively with restoration technicians and trades

Participate in after-hours emergency response on a rotational basis

What you bring

Proven experience as a carpenter (renovation, restoration, or residential construction)

Ability to complete framing, finishing, cabinetry installation, and repair tasks independently

Strong understanding of safe construction practices and building codes

High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Strong work ethic, reliability, and accountability for completing assigned tasks

Ability to maintain clean, safe, organized work areas

Ability to shift tasks mid-project and adapt to changing restoration priorities

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in customer homes with empathy and respect

Valid Driver’s License (Mandatory)

Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding environments

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)

IICRC certification (restoration focus)

WHMIS

First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.
