Education and Certification

High School Diploma or GED required.

Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required. The employee must obtain a CDA certificate within 6 months of employment. If the employee works in mixed classrooms (EHS and HS), a CDA for each age group is required. The most prevalent age group must be obtained first; an additional 6 months will be granted for the second CDA. If the CDA is not completed successfully on the first attempt, the employee may retake the course at their own expense within 60 days.

Failure to obtain a second CDA within the required time will result in separation from employment.

  • Previous early childcare experience preferred.

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
Critical Action Items
  • Protect the physical and mental health and safety of children; no child left unsupervised.
  • Assist in providing an organized learning environment that promotes healthy development and skill growth aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework for Ages Birth to Five.
  • Support implementation of prescribed curricula in language, literacy, social & emotional development, math, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical development, and integrate child assessment data into planning.
  • Support screenings, assessments, and ongoing evaluation of child developmental level and progress.
  • Facilitate opportunities for parents and family to engage in child development and program services, including parent conferences, home visits, and group activities.
  • Ensure child safety during all activities, including reporting suspected or known abuse and neglect, and maintain appropriate supervision and standards of conduct.
  • Follow positive adult-child interaction standards as measured by the CLASS:
    Pre-K instrument.
  • Participate in staff development, including mandatory training and continuing professional development.
Other Responsibilities
  • Support classroom activities directed by the teacher and assist with transitions.
  • Support use of age-appropriate equipment, materials, supplies, and physical space for indoor and outdoor learning.
  • Communicate child observations to teachers, identifying potential interference with development.
  • Co‑ordinate with education, family, mental health, or child development professionals to address identified needs.
  • Support school function meetings and team decision-making.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all child and program operations.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
Measurable Deliverables
  • Responsive and timely support for classroom requests, in compliance with regulations.
  • Regular communication with teachers to keep them informed about student behavior and progress.
  • Maintain a classroom free from physical and environmental hazards.
  • Complete incident reporting within the specified time frames.
Requirements
  • Respond sensitively and competently to the cultural and socio‑economic characteristics of the service population.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally in English;
    Spanish preferred.
  • Maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of all Innovative Network of Knowledge policies and procedures.
  • Organize and prioritize duties in a fast‑paced environment.
Immunization Requirements

Employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and receive an annual influenza vaccine, or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption. Proof of vaccination must be provided by new hires.
