- Work closely with the broader Leidos Engineering, Field Service Representatives (FSRs) and the customer's technical team
- Support the systems that aid in the protection of Australian Sovereignty - Candidates must be Australian Citizens and be able to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance
- Scoresby location - Hybrid work - Once settled into position, the minimum commitment in the office is 1 day per week - can shift depending on commitments
- Some local travel may be required to support customer reviews and for technical investigations
- Full‑time or Part‑time (Min 4 days) opportunities considered

Your New Role and Responsibilities
An exciting opportunity exists to join a team focused on sustaining and introducing new capabilities into service for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Systems supported include:
- Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs)
- Ruggedised Portable Computing Systems
- Weather Stations and Weather RADAR equipment
- Hydrographic survey systems
Our Mission Systems Engineers maintain and evolve the ICT product baseline and interface structures for multiple delivered sub‑systems. They also assist in the smooth transition of new capabilities into service.
Reporting to the Technical Lead, the Mission Systems Engineer will
- Develop and maintain mission system software baselines for the delivered mission systems including:
- Building software images
- Testing applications
- Testing interfaces
- Applying Group Policy, security controls, patches and updates
- Maintain effective integration between all mission system elements
- Using a whole‑of‑system approach, conduct investigations into reported defects/problems in the system.
- Assist in the coordinate and planning of mission system Security Accreditation within the Defence ICT Cyber‑Security Accreditation Framework
- Design, implement and support technical solutions
- Manage/develop technical documentation defining systems configuration and design process
- Provide technical advice to Leidos maintenance team and RAN end users
- Work with junior engineering staff to expand mission engineering depth and expertise.
- Provide inputs into potential enhancements to the delivered mission systems
What You’ll Bring to Make an Impact
- Bachelor's degree in either Computer Systems, Telecommunication/Network, or Mechatronics/Robotics engineering.
- Experience with IT infrastructure and platforms such as Windows, Linux, and Active Directory and implementing ICT security controls and settings
- Engineering experience, preferably within the Defence industry
- Working knowledge and Experience with Defence ICT Cyber‑Security Accreditation
- Experience deploying and managing software applications onto hardware systems
- An understanding of the key elements/phases of Systems Engineering and Integrated Logistics Support activities necessary to maintain the systems
- Experience developing engineering artefacts (Applications for Deviation, Problem Reports, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), engineering investigation reports, specialist engineering design, etc.)
- Experience in risk and hazard identification/management within a Cyber‑Security regulatory environment
