Environmental Specialist
Pay: $81,000–$85,000/year
Express Employment Professionals is seeking an Environmental Specialist to support environmental programs across multiple rail facilities, with a strong focus on air permit compliance and industrial hazardous waste management.
What You’ll Do Air Permit Compliance (50%)- Calculate monthly air emissions using established tracking tools.
- Review and approve new paints, coatings, and cleaning commodities.
- Monitor permit requirements and operational compliance documentation.
- Prepare annual air emissions inventories and permit fee applications.
- Coordinate hazardous waste shipments and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Prepare manifests, labels, and shipping documentation.
- Maintain electronic waste inventories and conduct physical inventory verification.
- Track waste shipments and prepare annual waste summaries.
- Organize disposal invoices and create waste determinations.
- Maintain compliance calendars and reporting deadlines.
- Collect environmental samples (stormwater, waste, etc.) as needed.
- Complete monthly and annual environmental reports.
- Assist with audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries.
- Conduct facility compliance inspections and promote best management practices.
- 1–5 years of environmental compliance experience, preferably with:
- Air permit compliance
- Hazardous waste management
- Waste manifesting and profiling
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Bioenvironmental Science, or related field.
- An Associate degree with 7–10+ years of relevant EHS experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
- Experience with:
- RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations
- DOT Hazmat compliance
- HAZWOPER 40-hour certification (or ability to obtain) preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, alcohol screen, and physical.
- Up to 35% travel to support multiple rail facilities.
