Job ResponsibilityResponsible for scheduling of surgery cases, receiving telephone calls and/or messages with appropriate routing, and clerical services necessary for the efficient operation of the department of surgery.
Job Specific- Participates in the safety management and infection control programs (EF).
- Orders and maintains adequate amounts of necessary office supplies (EF).
- Serves as a telephone receptionist for the surgery unit and responds according to the information received (EF).
- Schedules surgical procedures appropriately and with accuracy (EF).
- Implements registration of patients for surgical procedures (EF).
- Plans work schedule, sets priorities and completes assigned work without supervision (EF).
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of personal computer and word processing including creation of forms (EF).
- Types a minimum of 50-60 words a minute with accuracy (EF).
- Adapts to changes in work load while maintaining quality (EF).
- Maintains working relationships with others utilizing effective application of communication skills, courtesy, cooperation, and tact (EF).
- Assists with the orientation of new personnel (EF).
- Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
- Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance, and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
- Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Required:
High school diploma or equivalency sufficient to permit proper handling of written work and understand verbal orders.
Required:
Previous experience in a clerical or receptionist position with typing and computer knowledge.
Preferred:
Hospital experience and medical terminology.
