Job Description

WAGE/HR STATUS: Exempt

COMPONENT: Early Childhood Intervention

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Provide high-quality Occupational Therapy services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities in accordance with Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) requirements;
Assess children’s functional abilities and support participation in everyday family and community routines through developmentally appropriate, evidence-based intervention;
Partner with parents and caregivers using a coaching approach to build their confidence, knowledge, and skills to support their child’s development and incorporate therapeutic strategies into daily activities and routines;
Collaborate with families and the interdisciplinary ECI team to promote meaningful outcomes that enhance the child’s overall development and participation in family routines.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education/Certification:

  • Masters’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Texas

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmental milestones.
  • Understanding of therapeutic strategies to support motor, sensory, and adaptive skill development.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with families and multidisciplinary team members.

Minimum Experience:

  • One year of experience working with young children, preferably in early intervention, pediatrics, or family-centered settings.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide direct Occupational Therapy services to children and families in home and community settings.
  • Participate in developmental screenings and evaluations as part of the ECI team.
  • Interpret assessment data, prepare clear reports, and share results with families in a supportive manner.
  • Partner with families and interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and review Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, reports, and documentation in compliance with program, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource for families and staff regarding motor development, adaptive equipment, and strategies to support participation in daily routines.
  • Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) as assigned.
  • Maintain licensure requirements and remain current with evidence-based practices and professional development.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, and respect for diversity and confidentiality.
Equipment Used
  • Daily use of laptop, electronic health records systems, and other technology or equipment necessary for documentation, communication, and service delivery.
  • Adaptive and assistive devices as appropriate to support child and family needs.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to varied environments.
  • Maintain professionalism, empathy, and emotional regulation in diverse situations.
  • Interpret policies, procedures, and data to guide best practices.

  • Frequent in-region and occasional out-of-region travel.
  • Occasional extended or irregular hours.
  • Work in home and community environments with varying accessibility.
  • Physical activities may include standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to provide services in family homes, including those that may not be ADA accessible.
